In using Word 2002, Win 98, we have used the following
command to have tables referenced in paragraphs:
Insert>Reference>Cross Reference
From what I've read, this should automatically update a
table number in the paragraphs (after adding in a new
table which do change their number automatically) but it's
not working in the paragraphs so that we have to manually
upate it ourselves.
I'm wondering if I'm missing a step or if this is a glitch?
thanks,
Regina

Hi Regina

By using Inset > Reference > Cross Reference, you are inserting a field.
Fields don't update on the fly. But they will update if you do ctrl-a (to
select the whole document) and then F9.

And, to save potential embarrassment, make sure that, at Tools > Options >
Print, you have the box "Update fields" ticked. That will make sure the
fields are all updated before you print the document.

Hope this helps.
